Our Commitment to Your Privacy
New Dawn Psychiatry ("New Dawn," "we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy and the confidentiality of your health information. As a healthcare practice, we are required by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and applicable Minnesota state laws to maintain the privacy of your protected health information and to provide you with notice of our legal duties and privacy practices.
This Privacy Policy applies to information we collect through our website at newdawnpsychiatrymn.com and through our clinical services. The effective date shown in this page's footer reflects the most recent revision.
Information We Collect
Protected Health Information
Once you become a patient, we collect and maintain protected health information (PHI) related to your evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and care. This includes demographic details, medical and psychiatric history, medications, treatment notes, and other health-related information necessary to provide care. PHI is governed by HIPAA and held to the highest standard of protection we maintain.
Information You Provide Through Our Website
When you contact us, request an appointment, or submit a form on our website, we may collect your name, date of birth, email address, phone number, general reason for seeking care, insurance information (if you choose to share it), and emergency contact information. Submitting a form does not establish a provider-patient relationship.
Automatically Collected Website Data
Our website may automatically collect limited technical information including your IP address, browser type, pages visited, time on the site, and referring website. This data helps us maintain the site and is not linked to your identity unless you also submit a form.
How We Use Your Information
We use information only as permitted by HIPAA and applicable law, including for:
- Treatment — providing, coordinating, and managing your psychiatric care
- Payment — billing your insurance and processing payments for services
- Healthcare Operations — quality assurance, staff training, and running our practice
- Communication — responding to inquiries, confirming appointments, and care follow-up
- Legal Compliance — meeting obligations under federal and Minnesota state law
When We Share Your Information
We do not sell your information. We share PHI only when permitted or required by HIPAA, including:
- With other healthcare providers involved in your care, with your written authorization
- With your insurance company for billing and benefits verification
- With our practice management and telehealth platform (SimplePractice), which is bound by a HIPAA Business Associate Agreement
- When required by law, including mandatory reporting of suspected abuse, court orders, or public health reporting
- To prevent or lessen a serious and imminent threat to health or safety
Any other disclosure requires your written authorization, which you may revoke at any time except where we have already acted on it.
Your Rights Under HIPAA
You have the following rights regarding your health information:
- Right to Access — inspect and request a copy of your medical record
- Right to Amend — request corrections to information you believe is inaccurate or incomplete
- Right to an Accounting of Disclosures — receive a list of certain disclosures we have made
- Right to Request Restrictions — request limits on how we use or disclose your PHI
- Right to Confidential Communications — request that we contact you only in a specific way or at a specific location
- Right to a Paper Copy — receive a paper copy of our Notice of Privacy Practices at any time
- Right to File a Complaint — file a complaint with us or with HHS without fear of retaliation
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the information below. You may also file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office for Civil Rights, at www.hhs.gov/ocr or by calling 1-800-368-1019.
Telehealth Privacy
New Dawn Psychiatry provides care exclusively through secure telehealth. We use SimplePractice, a HIPAA-compliant platform designed for healthcare providers, for all video visits and clinical communications. Please attend telehealth sessions from a private location using a secure internet connection. We do not record telehealth sessions without your prior written consent.
To use our services, you must be physically located in Minnesota at the time of your appointment, as our provider is licensed in Minnesota.
How We Protect Your Information
We implement administrative, physical, and technical safeguards to protect your information, including encrypted electronic health records, access controls limiting PHI to authorised staff, ongoing HIPAA training, and secure data disposal. If a breach involving your PHI occurs, we will notify you as required by federal and Minnesota law.
Cookies and Website Tracking
Our website may use cookies to remember your preferences and understand traffic patterns. You may disable cookies in your browser settings, though some site features may not function as intended. We do not use tracking technologies to collect PHI or build advertising profiles.

Our website may link to third-party services such as our patient portal, the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, and insurance provider websites. When you follow these links you leave our site and are subject to those services' own privacy practices. We encourage you to review their policies.
